Welcome to my blog, here I share with you my own journey as an entrepreneur and career woman.
MUJERES LATINAS HERE WE COME!!!

Okay, we're just one week away from the Mujer Latina, Un Dia Para Ti event in Chicago. This marks my third year as member of the planning committee and I'm hoping the event will be our best one yet. This year we broadened our topics from health to include a session on Fashion and Style which I will be mediating.
The titled is "No dejes que las apariencias enganen" relates to the signals we send with our image and how that can help or hurt us in our personal and professional development. Some time back I featured Weyleen Ma, an image consultant in Miami who gave us some great advice on enhancing our image through clothing and body language. READ ARTICLE HERE.
I never knew politics could be so emotional
Jenee meets our future Prez!Back in May I exchanged emails with my friend Jenee Chizick who sent me a photo of her and Obama when he visited Philadelphia. I wrote back and said it was cool to have her pic taken with our future president. Last night I watched that happen with my eyes so full of tears I could not even speak. Suddenly I feel anything is possible, really, anything. I could not make it to the rally in Chicago because I’m in Michigan right now but didn’t need to be there to feel the energy and emotion that came from the crowd. I woke up today very happy and proud to be living this time. Si se puede!!!
So I get a call from Mabel Iam on Monday and she’s just returned from Argentina where she got a deal to do a daily radio show. It launches on Friday and she asked me to be her Madrina from Chicago. I will be her guest on the show on Friday and it will air in Argentina between 6 and 6:40. So to all you MCAE readers: Che, un saludo!!!
I've received many new subscriptions for Mujeres Weekly newsletter which has been MIA for two weeks because I’ve had too much on my plate. However, this weekend I’ll put a new issue together and should be in your mail box on Monday.
As always, thanks for your support!
ASK FOUR QUESTIONS AND TELL FOUR WOMEN
Las night I had a chance to chat with model Beverly Johnson who has taken on the role of spokeswoman for a campaign that raises awareness about fibroid tumors. Beverly is urging all women to ask four questions to their physician and tell four women about what they know or have lived in regards to fibroid tumors.
On a personal level I wanted to talk about ask4tell4 on MCAE because when I went through this two years ago I was in the same shoes as Beverly and thousands of women who are diagnosed every year. The worst thing for me was having gone undiagnosed for so many years and living through symptoms that affected my health in other ways, like being anemic. For this reason I reached out to this campaign and invited Beverly Johnson to chat with me along with Doctor Linda Bradley who is partnering up with the campaign to shed light and empower women to make informed decisions abut the treatment.
The podcast will air next week, please don’t miss it and do share it with other women. The campaign’s website is www.ask4tell4.com.
Internships past and present
I’ve been giving serious consideration lately to bringing an intern on board to help me with the growing volume of content. I’m getting to the point where doing it alone is getting harder because most media inquiries I send out get a big “We’d love to!” as a response. That’s great because MCAE is growing but as I juggle a full time career and managing MCAE during off hours (yet I'm grateful for having both) and day time here-and-there I think brining someone else could ease the pressure. I’m just kicking the idea around in my head but may touch base with my former Alma matters Grand Valley State University and Emerson College to explore the possibility.
In a way, interning with a small operation gives a student a lot more significant hands on experience than being with a large company. As a student I did both and preferred the smaller entity which was the World Federation of Advertisers in Brussels. Among my many experiences lies the time I spoke with a Senior Executive at Hasbro in Europe who was asking me for an update on a project I was working on. I was going over some of my statistical findings, broken down country by country, and mistakenly called his country “England”. I was quickly and very sternly corrected with “It’s called UK unless you have a very good reason to leave out
With MCAE I’ve had the chance to meet people from all walks of life scattered all over the country and even world without leaving my city in the Midwest. I’m sure an intern could benefit greatly from that level of networking so when it’s time to find a job the lead time is shortened. Okay, let me give this some more thought and it just may take shape very soon.
Keeping it real with a board game about authenticity
I purposefully “forgot” my laptop at the office this weekend because I wanted to give my hands a rest. My routine in recent months of spending 8 to ten hours a day at the keyboard has caused me to develop a touch of carpel tunnel on both hands.
However, I missed the work I could have done since I spent all three days stuck inside watching the rain pour non stop and cause serious flooding in parts of Chicago and Indiana. So this week the sunshine is back and I’m back to my PC and my wrists are in much pain.
But enough about me, I’m very excited because I was able to finally touch base with a entrepreneurial lady I met at the Chicago MED Week (that’s Minority Business Development). She is happily married but it was not always like that, she spent a lot of time as a single woman hoping to meet Mr. Right, when she found him, she decided to set the path that led her to her husband Milton into a board game. Sheila Brown’s game is called Play Authenticity her website is www.playauthenticity.com. The way it works is that a couple plays the game together as a way of getting to know each other, their values and what they are looking for in a partner.
I will be interviewing Sheila on Friday to learn more about her venture and how we can use her board game it to help us decipher the tricky world of dating. I’d like to invite all MCAE readers to send in any relationship questions they’d like to ask Sheila. Your name will be kept anonymous of course, just email me at: mcaminoalexito@gmail.com and check in on Friday for the full post.
